We couldn't have done it without the support from our local community!
Our First Farmers Market Season
Our first farmers market season was a success, but we couldn’t have done it without YOU! Since we just wrapped up our last market of the year, we wanted to reflect on everything we learned from our experience, especially the feedback and overwhelming support we received from our customers and fellow vendors.
If you asked us what our goal was when we started this company, we would’ve said that it was simply to take care of our herd—including our family and friends. However, once we realized the demand for our beef, we fell in love with the idea of meeting and selling to our product to local customers at farmers markets.
Lola’s Local Farmers Market in Fort Worth welcomed us with open arms in July of this year. While we were super excited to prepare for our first market, we had no idea what to expect. We obtained permits through the city and Tarrant County; ordered a banner and tent; loaded our coolers with dry ice, thermometers, and lots of steaks; and packed up our merch. After setting up our booth, we were happy with how everything looked, but we realized we forgot the most important thing to have while out in the Texas summer heat: a giant fan. Despite the heat, our first market went super well!
People took interest in our booth because they were excited to learn about our product, what we do, and where their food comes from. We educated customers about how we raise our cattle, what it takes to keep them fed, the processing at a family-owned USDA facility, the different cuts of steak that we sell, and we answered tons of great questions to gain the trust of our customers. To our surprise, we also got to meet some returning customers that have bought from us on our website and followed our journey online. Some of our favorite conversations with our customers were about how they use our meat for their businesses or to feed their families, which has made this experience even more special for us.
In addition to meeting some wonderful customers, we also made some friends with other vendors along the way. Mr. and Mrs. Melby from Melby’s Macarons are some of the sweetest people we’ve ever met, and they also make amazing macarons and iced fruit tea—their booth is always our first stop. Julia from Flour & Sugar is super talented and makes the cutest and tastiest sugar cookies for any occasion. Lola’s became our home market because we love the people and sense of community there.
After we found success at Lola’s, we ventured out to the Saginaw Farmers Market in October, where many of our customers and other vendors suggested we go. We spoke with lots of local families that were excited to stock up their freezers, and we met more vendors like The Curry Family at Funky Foods, who raise and sell chickens and eggs. We also partnered with Warrior Taco Food Truck to provide our ground beef for their yummy tacos. Though this market started bright and early, we began to look forward to the early Saturday mornings every other week.
Overall, we had such a great experience, and we loved sharing our passion for what we do with our customers and other vendors. Again, we couldn’t do this without the community’s support and feedback, so we are super thankful to all of you. We also can’t forget to mention the overwhelming support we received from our family and friends, which has meant everything to us. We are so unbelievably blessed, and we can’t wait to do this all again next year!
